Music & Movement Workshop

Shweta Pandya x Brinda Guha

I know

I know all

I know all I know

all I know, is that I know nothing

As the various ragas move the piece through the day and our emotions, from Vibhaas, to Lalit, to Jaijaiwanti, to Bhairavi, we yearn to explore the concept of nirguna bhakti, or devotion without a traditional form, by repeating ideas with and without purpose, and drawing a physical and melodic path to oneness.

We travel through the dichotomies of knowing and ignorance, ego and love, lovelessness and justice, and ultimately, to the forward-moving helix of self and agency. We remove the limitations of forms and attributes, eventually freeing ourselves from the bondage of what we think we know.

This piece explores how using various ragas with different melodic structures can lend themselves to a genre of story-telling that doesn’t require words, but communicates exclusively through sound.
